What Crucial Item Of Evidence Might Vanish?

From talking to people who served on juries in accident cases, lawyers have discovered that  there's one piece of evidence that is so crucial, it often means more to them than the testimony of doctors, engineers or other expert witnesses:

THEY WANT TO SEE PHOTOS OF WHAT THE CARS LOOKED LIKE AFTER THE CRASH!

In some respects, this is unfortunate, because there is no absolute scientific correlation between damage done to the vehicle and damage done to the people inside it. (You know this instinctively if, when you shop at the grocery store, you open the egg carton to check for broken eggs, even though you can clearly see without opening it that the carton itself is undamaged.)

Of course, if the vehicle you were riding in sustained significant visible damage, then this common misperception will work to your advantage.  BUT IF YOU DON'T TAKE PHOTOS RIGHT AWAY, BEFORE THE VEHICLES ARE SCRAPPED OR REPAIRED ... then this dramatic courtroom evidence will disappear.

So make sure someone takes plenty of photos of the vehicles, from lots of different angles, as soon as possible.  And don't assume that photos taken by insurance adjusters will be any help.  Usually, they are taken at such distances and perspectives that the vehicle damage will look far less serious than it actually is.
