The big mistake people make, however, is thinking they can do this on their own. Insurance companies, despite what they say, have no intention of being fair with you.
Take Allstate Insurance, for example. It discovered, from its own records, that injury victims who used LAWYERS to settle their claims ended up with MORE MONEY -- even AFTER paying a percentage to the lawyers -- than the people who settled without using lawyers.
So Allstate began sending letters to accident victims urging them NOT to hire a lawyer, and implying that they would get more money by settling directly with Allstate ... which was, of course, a lie. Because of this, Allstate has been charged with fraud and misrepresentation by numerous state officials [click here for story] and has been sued by many of its own policyholders [click here for story].
What was that about being "in good hands..."?
